In the late 1990's some writers in a newsgroup convinced me I had talent. They said I should call myself "a writer." It seemed too good to be true. Too decadent a decision. Something I wanted so much couldn't be the Right Thing To Do.

For a couple years, I made my living as a
freelance writer. It was a very, very small living involving babysitting, p/t admin jobs, bail outs from my parents, and credit card debt. I did, however, begin to collect a short list of publishing credits (see below). Over the last ten years I've picked up a few writing jobs, but I have mostly focused my professional energies on grantwinners.net and every other drop of my energy goes to parenting.
The Truth About Fear and Depression was a book I wrote in 2003 for a book packaging company. The project was based on an outline provided to me. I did the research and the writing. I'm particularly fond of the vignettes, or very short stories I wrote illustrating examples of different forms of mental illness related to anxiety and depression. (I lobbied hard to get the title changed as "fear" is inaccurate. But the titles were created to go as an alphabetized set.) For more on my experience writing this book, click here.
In 1997 or 1998 I started writing what I called "columns." I posted them on my website. I called it, facetiously, "It's All About Me! (the column)" because I was newly recovered from alcoholism and tended to slip into the false notion that I was eternally fascinating. Each week, by midnight on Wednesdays in fact, I would post a new column. Sometimes it was what I called "spew," and sometimes it was a well-researched piece on current events. Other times it was somewhere between personal essays and opinion columns.

I remember in 2000 when a friend referred to my web writing as my "blog," and I thought that was really weird sounding. Little did I know... Blogs.

So, yes, a few years ago I returned to writing on the web. I've finally accepted the term "blog" and if you would like to read mine, you'll find it here:

The book.
How it started.
The blog.
The rest.
Most of my publication credits are listed here. In addition to those articles, I've written for many now-defunct websites on topics ranging from voting rights to pubic hair. What I treasure most in writing is variety.

Now, if you want to hire a good writer and great researcher who always meets her deadlines and will write in whatever voice you require...
